Within our built environment, at the fringes of urban habitation, exists a complex and unobserved landscape, the edgeland. These landscapes are a mixture of rubbish tips, abandoned factories, aging industrial parks, gas towers, electricity towers, arid and patchy farmlands, stagnant waterways,weedy grasslands, disturbed and disjointed forests. Edgelands have no signposts or guide books that define them as places. Ignored and unnamed, they are zones of unease, mystery and paradoxical beauty; a rich space to engage in artistic dialogue.
